The Night's Work
Every night, when the sun goes down, the big bright Moon comes up. The Moon works all night long. She lights up the sky so children can see their way home. She watches over sleeping animals and helps people find their way. She twinkles at the stars and tells them stories. The Moon loves her night job, but sometimes she gets very, very tired. Her light gets a little dim, and her eyes start to close.
The Moon Yawns
One night, after watching over the whole world, the Moon let out a big yawn. 'Yaaaawn!' Her light flickered a little bit. The stars were worried. 'Moon, are you okay?' they asked. The Moon said, 'I am very tired, my little star friends. I have been shining for many nights in a row. I think it is time for me to rest.' The stars nodded. They knew that even the Moon needed to sleep sometimes. Rest is important for everyone.
The Moon Sleeps
The Sun started to peek up over the horizon. 'Good morning, Moon!' said the Sun cheerfully. 'Time to go to sleep!' The Moon was very happy to see the bright sun. She gave the stars a goodnight wink. 'Goodnight, stars. Goodnight, world. Sleep well.' Then the Moon slowly sank below the horizon to her cozy resting place in the sky. She wrapped herself in soft clouds and closed her eyes. The whole sky was quiet and peaceful.
Dreaming of Tomorrow
While the Moon slept, she had sweet dreams. She dreamed of stars dancing and children playing in the sunshine. She dreamed of oceans sparkling and flowers blooming. After a long, restful sleep, the Moon woke up feeling wonderful and bright. She yawned and stretched, ready to light up the night sky again. And all over the world, children were getting ready for sleep too, just like the Moon. 'Goodnight, Moon,' they said. And the Moon shone down, happy and well-rested. The end.
